INTRODUCTION:

WARMUP:
Nope – we divvied up the milk and cookies and hit the road.
THE THANG:
We had two missions: conquer the 12-miles of Ruckmas and deliver cookies and milk along the way to Firehouse #2 and the Atrium Pediatric Emergency Room, both of which were along our route. Simple enough, right? The route was straightforward – Forsyth Rd down to Popular St, through the downtown Christmas light display, and back. Little did we know, the men of Crossroads had set up a surprise aid station with water and electrolytes. It was as official as it gets, but with fewer cheering fans and more confused neighbors and passersby.
Everyone was jolly and full of holiday cheer until around mile 8 or 9. Then the festive cheer turned into a chorus of moans and groans that could give a haunted house a run for its money.
Some finished strong, while others crawled the last 100 feet like they were auditioning for a zombie movie. One pax even finished the last half mile with one shoe on and one shoe off – a new ruck performance enhancing secret perhaps?
By the end, pax were sprawled out in the parking lot like they were sunbathing under the streetlights, but instead of getting a tan, we were just soggy and shivering in the 30-degree.
Mission accomplished….. until next year!
